NRI donates 100,000 pounds for London statue of Gandhi

NRI entrepreneur Rami Ranger, director of Sun Mark Limited has donated 100,000 pounds, the largest sum of money yet, to the Gandhi Statue Memorial Trust, who are coordinating the public fundraising for the proposed statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Parliament Square in London. Mr Ranger, whose business interests range from shipping to beverage manufacturing to property development said the world owes Gandhi a huge debt of gratitude for liberating one fifth of mankind through non-violence thereby creating a better world. Lord Meghnad Desai, chair of the Trust said there are pledges of large amounts due to be realised in the next month while smaller donations continue to flow into the website from around the world through its online donation facilities.
