NRI hacked by unidentified assailants in Kerala

assailantsIn a case of road rage by 2 groups of motorists, an NRI was hacked with a machete, near Vozhinjam junction.

The victim Sunil Kumar, 30, of Marthandam in Tamil Nadu, had just arrived in Thiruvananthapuram from Saudi Arabia and was picked up at the Airport by his brother Sevan and brother-in-law also named Sunil.

They told police the violence was a result of an episode of road rage that lasted from Vellau to Vizhinjam. Soon after they left the airport in a Maruti Wagon R car, 4 men on bikes overtook them and began zigzagging. As a result the brother had to continuously honk to pass the men. Irked by the honking, the assailants blocked the car at Vellar and began a verbal row. The men appeared to be drunk.

Though they ended the quarrel and resumed the journey, 2 of the men blocked them again and hacked Sunil who had exited the car to talk to them, with a machete. Sunil was admitted to a hospital near the airport with serious injuries on his hand and thigh.

Police are yet to identity the attackers, and the surveillance cameras are being examined.
