NRI land grab case, Punjab official absconds

Three weeks after Punjab Police filed a case against patwari (junior revenue official) Sukhjinder Singh and three others in an NRI land-grab case, the wanted men are still on the run, after they were found guilty of tampering with the NRI's land ownership record in Ranian village near Moga. Another accused Kuldeep Singh, who boasts of closeness to Moga's Akali minister Tota Singh secured anticipatory bail after the FIR was registered. Only one of the accused, Mohinder Singh, has been arrested thus far. Records show that the aggrieved NRI Nirmal Singh had been leasing out his land to different contractors since 2010. Earlier Nirmal and two other NRIs had claimed that the lands of many NRIs in the state were under grabs. Asked about the state of the case, Moga district revenue officer Savita claimed she was unaware of the developments and would find out.
