The Goa Human Rights Commission has summoned the state police chief and two officers, to appear before it in connection with a complaint filed by NRI Francis deSouza alleging harassment by a Mumbai gang.
The 73-year-old complainant petitioned the Commission after police allegedly failed to act on his complaint against the gang that had been threatening him to vacate his house in Siolim village, which he bought in 2011. He also alleged that police failed to take cognizance of his complaint, in which he said that while he was on holiday the gang trespassed into his property breaking open the doors, and threw out all his possessions as they took possession of the house.
Mr deSouza said the police not only failed to protect his property but also connived with the accused.
The Commission will hear the case on February 1.
