NRI says harassment doesn't deter from working to uplift poor

NRI Sativ Chahil, from California who has been working in the rural belt of Mansa for three years, says constant harassment from the locals and government officials has not deterred him from taking on his work to uplift the poor and illiterate. The Amritsar born trustee of American India Foundation admitted he faced difficulties when he decided to work for the uplift of the poor in villages like Bappiana and Narendrerpura, but he continued his work there as his forefather belongs to the villages in Mansa and his parents had asked him to work there, so that is what he has been doing since 2010. He said the harassment continued but nobody directly asked him to pay a bribe but there were always hints and resistance. Satjiv spoke about his ordeal while he and his team conducted a seminar on curbing the evil of dowry, female foeticide and drug addition in the government middle school in Bappiana village. The programme was attended by Rajendra Mittal, the district education officer, who expressed ignorance about the organisation and the work it has allegedly done in the area.
