NRIs start website to monitor use of their donations back home

Parush Patel of Mississippi, Babubhai Patel of Jackson and Sanjay Patel of Florida found it difficult to stay in touch with happenings in their native village of Baben in Surat district so they created a website Babengrampanchayat.in. Now they and others can see their village and its development on the site and send their contributions to progress there. Now some 500 people living abroad call up their relatives living in Baben and suggest some projects that could be undertaken, and the website has had 600 odd hits in the four months since it was constructed. Bhavesh Patel, Sarpanch of the village says he plans to collect contributions from their villagers for realising the dream of a green Baben. He has put in a word on the net and the money is ready and he needs contributions only for projects that the Grampanchayat cannot handle financially. Now a number of villages have designed their own Websites to stay connected with family and friends living abroad and many contribute to the progress and development of their native land through this facility.
