Odisha Football Prodigy age 11 heads to Bayern Munich Academy

Chandan NayakChandan Nayak 11, from a slum in Bhubaneswar, went through a tough upbringing and journey in his quest to be a part of the Indian football team.

Defying all odds the 11-year-old prodigy has been selected to train at Germany’s iconic club Bayern Munich, as an academy player for two months.

Now he is one of the few who were selected for an all-expenses paid junior football camp to Bayern.

Chandan who says Argentina’s Lionel Messi is his inspiration, is very happy and thanks his coach Jayadev Mahapatra who said the boy’s family is a broken one as his father deserted him when he was very young. His mother works as a servant and manages the family.

The Coach also said ‘the boy is a talented player whom they spotted when he was very young, and he has been training with them for the last 3 or 4 years.

When he was selected he was the youngest but being only 11 he was not allowed to enter but they were asked to give him a chance and he surprised everyone. He will receive a rich experience once he completes his training in Germany where he is to go shortly.

In Germany the best coaches will train him, better than any training he can receive in India.

The coach also praised the central and sate government for creating all the necessary documents in time for his travel. They are now waiting for his visa to be ready in a few days.
