Over 90% Indian Muslim women want ban on triple talaq

tritalaqAccording to a survey conducted by the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan (BMMA), 92.1% of women want the oral triple talaq to be banned, and 91.7% spoke out against polygamy saying a Muslim man should not be allowed to have another wife during the time he is still married.

The survey also shows that 85% of those surveyed want action against the clerics who send notices of oral divorce, and 93% are in favour of mandatory arbitration ahead of divorce.

The survey was conducted across 10 states including West Bengal, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Jharkhand. It was conducted jointly by Noorjehan Safia Niaz and Zakia Soman, and the main aim behind the survey was to give a voice to the Muslim women and find out their thoughts on the issues.
