PM touches feet of centenarian who sold her goats to build toilets

BACKpmPrime Minister Narendra Modi felicitated 104-year old Kunwar Bai from Dhamtari, Chattisgarh, by touching her feet, to honour her efforts to make her village free of open defecation.

During the launch of ‘Rurban Mission’ two development blocks of Rajnandgaon were also declared defecation free by the PM, who said the woman who lives in a remote village, does not watch TV, or read newspapers, got the message and sold her 10 goats to build 2 toilets at her home thus encouraging others from the village to build toilets. As a result every home in the village now has toilets.

The country is changing Modi said, and asked the media to spread the story of the woman. Under ‘Clean India Mission’ he wants to make sure every home in the country has toilets by October 2019.

Modi also honoured Phoolbasan Bai Yadav, a social worker, who for her efforts to develop economically and socially backward women in the state, received the Padma Shri in 2012.
