Police horse Shaktimaan, who made headlines recently when it was repeatedly beaten with a stick by a BJP lawmaker during a protest in Dehradun, died in April from the injuries he suffered to his hind leg.
Shaktimaan was given a police burial soon after he died in April and a memorial statue of the horse was installed in Dehradun. Ironically just 4 days after, the statue was removed.
Sources say even though all the preparations were made for the inauguration of the statue, it was cancelled because an astrologer advised Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat to stay away from the horse, which he did, and refused to attend the function.
On the other hand while Shaktimaan’s injuries made headlines around the country his statue also elicited reactions from various political parties who criticised the installation saying it was irreverent, given that soldiers and police from Uttarakhand who died in service of the nation had not received a similar honour. This finally lead to the state government removing the statue of Shaktimaan.
Incidentally Uttarakhand is preparing for assembly elections next year.
