Porn site ban being reviewed after massive criticism

BACKHOmeINSIThe government is now reworking a decree that blocked some 857 sites for allegedly hosting porn that in effect impacted faultless dating, humour, and news sites.

Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad rejected some critics’ comment that India’s is a Talibani government for banning the sites, and countered the comment saying the government supports free media.

In any case last month the Supreme Court refused to ban online porn saying it would amount to a violation of the right to personal liberty. However the government claimed its ban order was based on recent Supreme Court ire about insufficient efforts to block child pornography.

Meanwhile the court is hearing a PIL or Public Interest Litigation that alleges porn results in increased violence against women.

Notwithstanding, a recent report found that women are voluntarily watching more porn these days than men.
