Punjab to set up NRI cells in every district

Addressing a gathering of NRIs, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal announced the government will set up separate NRI cells in every district across the state to facilitate NRIs getting their administrative work done separately. Deputy Commissioners of every district will be asked to provide a separate room for an NRI cell in the respective District Administrative Complex for the purpose and the cells must be provided with adequate infrastructure. Badal also asked the Home Secretary to review the list of NRIs Proclaimed Offenders and come up with a foolproof mechanism for segregating NRIs against whom no major crime was proved. He said NRI police stations could play a pivotal role by trying to resolve issues with mutual understanding. A committee comprising NRIs will also be set up in every NRI police station for the purpose.
