Reports say that NRI police stations in Punjab are flooded with complaints against Punjabi NRIs who are involved in various criminal activities. Reports also say most of the criminals come from the Doaba region of the state. According to Gurpreet Deo, the Inspector General of Police, NRI wing, they received 7,992 complaints in 2014. Most of these were from Canada followed by the UK, US, Australia and Italy. Punjab police have registered cases under various sections, but most are related to property, dowry, sham marriages, murders, and crimes against women. 94 of the accused were declared proclaimed offenders and and 75 were arrested.
