The famous Malayalam Version of the Ramayana titled Adhyatma Ramayanam Kilippattu written by Thunchath Ezhuthachan is recited in this holy month. The reading of the epic is managed in a way that the reading ends on the last day of the month, which is the last month in the Malayalam calendar. All publishers in Kerala bring out the Adhyatma Ramayanam Kilippattu. CDs, VCDs and DVDs of the recital are released. Almost all the Malayalam Television Channels telecast Ramayana reading and programs based on the epic. The Amavasi day in the month is dedicated to dead ancestors with special pujas at the seashore and on riverbanks. A pilgrimage to the four temples dedicated to Lord Ram is undertaken, known as the Nalambalam Darshanam.
