RTI activist and Guinness Book record holder Subhash Agarwal has been chosen to receive The Giraffe Hero Award by the US NGO The Giraffe Heroes Project, which is a non-profit group that honours risk takers, people who are largely unknown, and people who have courage and take risks for the common good, in the US and around the world. In a message to Agarwal the Project said his brave selfless acts of utilising the RTI Act for the public good and sticking his neck out despite innumerable challenges has and is making a significant impact on the governance of various organisations. Agarwal, 65, holds the Guinness record for filing the highest number of published letters to the editors, besides his RTI applications have delivered some important orders including bring political parties under the RTI act. Other Indians who have been honoured with the award include Baba Amte, Dr Mabelle Arole, Neha Gupta, Ela Bhatt, Usha Narayane and G Venkatasamy. Shubash Agarwal will receive the award at a public function at the School of Inspired Leadership, Gurgaon on Jan 22.
