Saudi Arabia is to now limit family visitors visas to six months, with the period starting once the visitor arrives in the country and registers on the passport department's computerised system. The visa will not be extended beyond 180 days. The announcement was made by Lt Col Ahmed bin Fahad Al Luhaidan in response to queries, and he confirmed that the Passport Department recently launched a family visa extension service where residents can extend the visa electronically. Family visit visas that are typically used by accompanying family members of foreign workers, do not grant the right to work or reside in Saudi Arabia. The decision to limit the visitor visa will affect the 2.8 million Indian expatriate population living in the Kingdom.
