The headmaster and hostel superintendent of a tribal welfare school in Odisha were arrested after a Grade 6 student delivered a baby in the hostel. The two were charged with negligence of duty, not informing the administration about the incident, and attempting to suppress the matter. The tribal girl who delivered a baby on February 4 is from the Umuri Ashram School a state run residential school for Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students in Koraput district near Bhubaneswar. School authorities took the baby and mother to her village and left them with her parents. Police were informed and after a preliminary investigation and arrested school master Kailash Verma and hostel superintendent Sabita Guru.
