Socialist Mulayam Singh Yadav's extravagant birthday celebrations

Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav celebrated his 75th birthday by cutting a 75 foot long cake at midnight at a grand event in Rampur. He also attended a grand ceremony on Jauhar Univestity premises and laid the foundation of a medical college. One the eve of the day Yadav rode an imported Victorian-style buggy as thousands of party leader Azam Khan's supporters accompanied the carriage as it proceeded towards Jauhar University. The SP chief along with his chief minister son Akhilesh and some 40 Uttar Pradesh ministers attended the two day celebrations. The Samajwadi Party distributed blankets to the poor and conducted a mass marriage in Gorakhpur. Police personnel in large numbers arrived from various districts of the state and were deployed to keep a vigil throughout the procession route. The extravagant celebrations, however drew flak from various quarters with many questioning the source of funds.
