Dutta is currently dean and professor of management and organisations of the Samuel Curtis Johnson Grad School of Management at Cornell University. He is considered an authority on the impact of new technology on the business world, particularly social media and networking, and strategies for driving growth and innovation by embracing the digital economy.
The Ithaca, New York institution announced that the new college is aimed at cementing the university’s position as a world-class centre of teaching and research for business management and entrepreneurship. It will comprise the School of Hotel Administration, the Charles H Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management, and the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management.
Dutta earlier served as the Roland Berger chaired professor of Business and Technology and was the founder and academic director of the eLab at INSEAD, a leading graduate business school in Fontainebleau, France.
He received a B.Tech in electrical engineering and computer science at the Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi. He received an MS in business administration, an MS in computer science, and a PhD in computer science from the University of California at Berkeley.
