Student seriously injured by police brutality

Chartered accountancy student Y Kalyana Chakravarthi and his friend Durga Rao were returning home on a two-wheeler after a function in the early hours in Vijayawada, when a police team attempted to stop them. A constable allegedly chased and attacked Durga Rao and when Chakravarthi objected to the highhanded attitude of the constable, a reserve SI dragged Chakravarthi on to the street and beat him severely. The RSI and the constable then left the scene after they realised that Chakravarthi was seriously injured in the attack. A witness said the victim was abandoned without medical attention for around half an hour till his friends rushed him to a hospital where he is battling for his life. A local ACP has denied the allegations and said that Chakravarthi was under the influence of alcohol when he was stopped. The victim has not filed a complaint against the police yet.
