Students in Allahabad and Varanasi are preparing a kilometre-long list of complaints regarding the problems facing Varanasi, that they intend to send to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. They claim some 400 metres of the list is ready and they hope to complete the remaining 600 metres in the next six months. A B.Tech student in Allahabad Kushagra Srivastava said the initiative was launched four months ago by a social organisation called Shuruat, most of the members of which are students, and since PM Modi is the MP from Varanasi they will hand it to his local office. The problems they are listing relate to sewer lines, traffic, street lights, and law and order. The have also organised 20 camps at the Banaras Hindu University where some 50 students spend a day or two each week to help organise camps. PM Modi has in effect planned to develop Varanasi as a centre of art and culture and has been coordinating with international institutes for the purpose, but the youths of Allahabad and Varanasi believe they should keep him posted on the ground realities so he can focus on developmental works.
