Tourists soon to get free SIM cards on arrival

India-SIM-Card-e-visaForeign visitors to India using electronic tourist visas will soon get free SIM cards on arrival.

The arrangement is aimed at attracting more tourists and raising India’s image as a global tourist destination. It also aims to address security concerns, helping tourists access telecoms services to make calls.

Reports say the scheme was approved by the home ministry, and a few more clearances are awaited, after which the scheme is to be implemented.

The SIM cards are to be handed out along with a welcome kit, and will be valid for 30 days

This scheme available to citizens of 150 countries is described as a ‘game changer’ for tourism. Reliance Industries has also promised free calls and data services till December 31 on its Jio network and begins with rock-bottom tariff plans from January and on.
