Jaspinder Pal Singh Chohan was gunned down in his car in front of a bank that he had withdrawn money from. He was involved in the moneylending business. Last week his cousin Jaspal Singh Bhatti, also a moneylender, was killed in the same city of Bulacan.
Another Punjabi moneylender was kidnapped in Cavite city some ten days ago.
For the past decade or so, scores of Punjabi moneylenders were killed in the Philippines and several others abducted. Most of the community members there work as moneylenders.
The succession of murders is raising questions about the safety of Indians involved in the trade.
