UK’s new visa rules affect scores of NRI professionals

ISSUukvisaruleThousands of Indians living and working in Britain on a Tier 2 visa may have tor leave the country or be deported if they earn less than 35,000 pounds a year once the terms of their visas expire.

Indian professionals are however making a last ditch effort to appeal to the UK Government over the new salary threshold requirement. Many have joined the “Stop 35K” campaign group against the discriminatory changes to the criteria for non-EU nationals applying for ‘Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK” at the end of a 5-year period of living and working in the UK.

Concerned by the situation PM Narendra Modi raised the issue with British counterpart David Cameron during a meeting on the sidelines of the Nuclear Security Summit in the US last week, saying skilled IT professionals from India should not find it difficult to go to work in the UK.

Mr Cameron promised to take a look at the situation.

Indian professionals have formed the largest category of individuals issued such visas over the years.
