Uttar Pradesh minister in charge of dairy development, Ram Murti Verma, has been charged with the murder of Jagendra Singh a Shahjahanpur based journalist who had mounted a relentless campaign against him.
Singh died of burn injuries after struggling for life for a week at a hospital in Lucknow. In his dying declaration he blamed Verma for the attack and told of how a similar attempt had been made on his life earlier.
Jagendra had written about the plight of an Aganwadi worker who said she had been gang-raped by the minister and some of his henchmen.
The victim’s family also alleged Jagendra was set on fire at his house by a group of cops and goons sent by Verma.
Police have filed an FIR against the minister and 4 others.
