US lawmakers celebrate Diwali with NRIs on Capitol Hill

INTERchillOver 30 members of the US Congress joined some 100 people at the annual Diwali event organised by Ami Bera and George Holding, Democratic and Republican co-chairs of the Caucus on India and Indian Americans on Capitol Hill, to celebrate the success of the Indian American diaspora.

The event provides the opportunity to meet with members of Congress and elected officials to laud the South Asian community’s contributions in business, technology, health care, arts, academics, and more.

Diwali is celebrated by over 2 million people in the US, said Mr Bera, and he looks forward to making Washington DC the hub for connecting members of the community from across the country.

He congratulated the volunteers who worked to make the celebration in Washington a success, and he looks forward to continuing to strengthen the bonds between the two countries.
