US NRI receives Basha Memorial Award

BashaMemAwardUS NRI Suresh Ediga has been presented with the 2014-15 Basha Memorial Award which is given to Young Outstanding Social Activists. He received the Award at a ceremony held in Anakapalle where the Central Information Commissioner Madabhushi Sridhar and journalist Tankasala Ashok were chief guests. The Award constitutes a memento and a cash prize of Rs.20,000. Suresh was recognised for his consistent and committed work for the cause of farmers, and his work to bring positive change to society.

Suresh lives in New Jersey and works in New York and is an activist who works on various issues in India including prevention of farmers’ suicides, providing basic necessities to tribal people, increasing awareness on the RTI and other causes. He is a key person behind Samay Radio that tells untold stories through online Radio. He started i4Farmers to help farmers in distress, and with his friends recently raised Rs.1 million to help them.

Suresh went to the US in 2001.He works with NGOs in India and has provided help for weavers. Suresh denoted the award to the Basha Memorial Trust to help continue their worthy activities.
