President Barack Obama has accepted PM Narendra Modi's invitation to be the chief guest at India's Republic Day celebrations in January. In Delhi the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed having received confirmation of Obama's acceptance of Modi's invitation. The White House said it will be the first visit by a US president as the Republic Day chief guest. Obama will also meet Modi and other officials to strengthen and expand the US-India strategic partnership. PM Modi met with President Obama in September at the White House, when he was in the US. The meeting did not yield significant announcements but the leaders pledged to work together on security issues and to boost economic ties. Earlier this month Modi also met with Obama at an East Asia summit in Myanmar.
