WhatsApp helps Tamil Nadu police bust criminals

According to reports, in every corner of Tamil Nadu investigating officers have realised the potential of Internet applications as crime solving tools, and now use them in a variety of ways to enhance their efficiency. One CB-CID officer said WhatsApp played a major role in cracking the case of the rape and murder of TCS employee Uma Maheshwari in Siruseri. The app also helped reunite a boy with his parents, and one inspector says he used WhatsApp to trace Mohammad Arafath's parents to Shivajinagar in Bangalore by sharing the boys photographs online. Police admit the technology also has a sinister side, with people misusing them to spread rumours and slander or stalk fellow app users.
