Two boys aged 9 and 10 approached Sanjay Kumar, 23, who owned a flower shop at the Kalkaji temple, for alms while he was having a drink outside a shop. When he refused the boys threatened to kill him, so Kumar slapped one which led to a scuffle in which one boy hit Kumar on his head with a beer bottle and the other pounced on him and cut his throat with the broken bottle.
Kumar tried to push the lads away and flee but he collapsed on the way. He also refused to let people in the area take him to hospital and fell unconscious and was taken to hospital by the police. He was declared dead on arrival.
A case of murder has been registered and the boys were apprehended from the Kalkaji temple. They ran away from their homes a year ago and stayed at the temple and begged for alms. Locals at the temple claim the boys were drug addicts.
Police say the boys have been sent to a juvenile justice home and are being counselled as efforts are being made to trace their family.
